Thunder Ridge Emu Farm is located minutes from Manassas, Virginia, on 30 acres located in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains. More than 450 emus roam freely out of doors in large fenced pastures in a natural surroundings. Owner, Anne Geller, has been raising emus since 1993 when the commercial Emu market began developing. To ensure excellent quality, Thunder Ridge Emus are fed specially formulated pellets comprised of various grains, vitamins and minerals. No hormones, steroids, antibiotics or animal proteins are used either in their feed or by injection Often called the "Wonder From Down Under," the Australian Aborigines have know for centuries that both the meat and the oil of the Emu possesses very special properties which explains it role as a traditional Aboriginal food and medicine. The Emu meat, recommended by the American Heart Association, is being discovered by top chefs and educated consumers around the world. It is a red meat which tastes and cooks like lean beef, is low in fat and cholesterol, yet high in protein and iron. Emu meat could possibly be the answer to a society forever striving for health-conscious alternatives; however, it's the Emu oil that currently has people flocking around this bird! Emu Oil, which is rendered from the fat of the bird, naturally contains Linolenic Acid (Omega 3) and Linoleic Acid (Omega 6).
